Here is what we have done so far

Above is an image of the first group of teachers was trained in the identification, assessment, and support of children with SEND. The training was provided in partnership with our partners Warm Heart Children’s Wellness and Therapy.

Training for teachers in Basic SEND identification, assessment, and support

In close collaboration with Warm Heart Rehabilitation, a leading private practice in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of cognitive and learning disabilities, AOMU organized training for groups of teachers from Lilongwe and Dowa districts, to equip them with skills to provide meaningful support to the children in their care. Warm Heart Children’s Wellness and Therapy is providing this training at no cost to AOMU but with support from a United Nations grant.

Statements from teachers following the initial training

As for Chikanda, the workshop we had is proving to be helpful… To most teachers at my school, it has proved to be an eye-opener… Others testified of many who were being left unassisted and overlooked not knowing they have a learning disability… Most teachers started connecting the dots after learning about the types of disabilities….we have given each other a time frame to identify suspected ones to understand ago an assessment.

Here at chimpumbulu the workshop has helped us a lot the number has increased from 9 to 20 and I hope it will increase because some teachers have not yet sent the number of learning disabilities.  Some teachers regret ignoring these learners

Yes, after sensitizing the teachers after the training, we are receiving learners each day sent by the class teachers

And we believe the number is going to increase
