AOMU Sensitisation
Getting everyone onboard
we address Discrimination and poor attitudes towards disability
AOMU seeks to address existing attitudes that lead to discrimination and stigmatization of children with SEND. Lack of appreciation of their rights and their potential for success; contributes to poor school enrollment, insufficient support provision, and poor motivation for children with SEND.
In this photograph, we have 4 village heads wearing AOMU t-shirts with the message that a child with a disability must be sent to school and receive appropriate support in class.
They vowed to ensure that children with various disabilities from their communities would be sent to school.
maximizing impact of interventions
Community members, parents, teachers and district education leaders attended the event to support AOMU’s initiative at Mponela 2 Primary school.
AOMU values engaging with all stakeholders as a way of maximising the impact of interventions and affecting longlasting change.
As you will note below, our sensitisation tools attracted some attention. Slowly but surely we will achieve the desired change for the benefit of Malawi’s children.
sensitization messages
We launched our sensitization campaign by producing posters with key messages to support the enrollment, inclusion, and support of children with SEND at home, in their communities, and at school.
Inclusion is all areas is essential
“Teachers must explore whether children’s poor behavior has underlying causes.”
“Though invisible, cognitive disabilities are more widespread. Let’s keep our eyes open and be ready to help.”
“Keen observation leads to early intervention and therefore more positive outcomes”
